The Black Belt Community Foundation awarded $80,000 in grants Saturday to support the arts in Dallas and surrounding counties.

The foundation gave out grants to 25 organizations in 12 different counties. In Dallas County, ArtsRevive received $2,950 to support the annual Tale Tellin’ in the Schools, which makes it so storytellers can perform in schools in Selma and Dallas County.

The Orrville Volunteer Fire Department was given $1,200 to support children’s art and to help with stipends for demonstrating artists at the West Dallas Antique, Tractor, Car, Gas Engine and Craft Show.

The list goes on and on and benefits people from Camden to Marion.

The Black Belt Community Foundation has given back a lot — as in $1.7 million — since 2006 through its Black Belt Arts Initiative, the Youth and Cultural Committee of the Black Belt Action Commission and the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

A lot of money was handed out this weekend and we’re sure it’ll be put to good use all around Dallas County and other counties in the Black Belt.
